seatkid Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 FORD TIS...Item C in the diagram - might be gummed up Idle Air Control Valve IAC Valve The idle air control valve (IAC valve) is an electronically controlled solenoid valve which allows a flow of air to bypass the throttle plate. Engine speed can, therefore, be maintained irrespective of load. The PCM determines engine speed from the PIP signal and this is compared with ECT sensor information, throttle position sensor (TP sensor) information and mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) information to enable the PCM to calculate the amount of valve movement required. The IAC valve is controlled by grounding pulses from the PCM, the length of which determines the position of the valve. Quote
